On Wednesday morning, we were given a talk by a lady named Serena from the Wicklow Enterprise Board. The point of the talk was to inform us about the mini company competition. We were told that the point of the mini company is to not only sell a product but to actually set up our own business, and to have things like a target market and a good product advertisement. We were also told about how there are two competitions in place, there is County finals and Nationals for the County winners. After telling us about the competition, Serena handed everyone a handful of paperclips and a blank page and told us to see how many ideas we could have and to write them down. My group found around 27 things a paperclip can be used for such as a temporary tie clip, A hole puncher and a key holder. This task was to show us how creative we could be with such little supplies and resources. Personally I found this talk very interesting and helpful as it made me think about my idea for a mini company.
Eagle flight workshop
On a Thursday morning my class, 4A were taking part in a workshop called eagle flight workshop, This was a team building exercise where we would be playing a sort of interactive board game about mining gold. At the start of the board game we were told we would have to find a route to the goldmine and make it back in 20 game days. We were given 15 minutes to plan our route and trade supplies needed to make it to the mine with the supervisor. Once everyone set off many of the teams took different routes to get to the mine and all was going fine. But after two game days in three of the teams got delayed by a hazard in the game and were set back a day meaning the rest of the teams had an advantage. Near the end of the game some of the teams including ours were low on supplies and had to trade expensive items for cheap fuel. This was when we realised that not many of the teams were using teamwork to win and were just being competitive. but at the end the supervisor revealed that the only way to get th highest amount of gold was to work together.
