Brexit project
Define Brexit: Brexit is the term used for Britain's decision to exit from the European union in a referendum that took place in June 2016.
The vote’s result shook global markets causing the British pound to drop to an all time low. The process of leaving the EU formally began on March 29th 2017 when Teresa May triggers article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.
Background- In 1957, France, West Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands signed the treaty of paris, which established the European Economic Community. This was the original European Union. When the United Kingdom applied for membership in the EEC Frances president vetoed it As he didnt want the english language dominating the French language.
Why did the UK decide to leave the EU?-The people of the United Kingdom gave their answer in a June 2016 referendum, shocking the world by voting to leave the bloc they'd joined in 1973. Many of the British saw it, the EU was expensive, out of touch and a source of uncontrolled immigration. They chose what's become known as Brexit.
Positive and negative on Ireland- It could create negatives at the border and immigrating to the UK. Some of the positives are that Ireland will be the only EU country with English as its first language making it more attractive to America. Ireland's trade with the UK could become more complicated causing dysfunction between businesses
Should Ireland leave the EU- I don't think we should leave the EU because we don't have a stable enough economy to support ourselves. While the positive would be keeping our fishing waters we would still be in heavy debt.
